The second set of Lancet Windows
on the North Wall (9)

Picture
The next set of windows on the North wall of the church are some of the beautiful stained glass from England. They depict Saint Philip, the Evangelist, Saint John, proclaiming Jesus as the Lamb of God, and Saint Peter, the rock.

This set of four lancet windows was the gift of T. Palmer Griswold to the glory of God and in memory of Adelaide Fox Smith, C. Harter, Cornelia A. Harter, Mary A. Newman and Emma J. Spencer.

Saint Philip

Saint Philip is shown in deep blue robes, bearing a cross. Philip was called by Jesus from Bethsaida; Philip in turn called Nathanael to meet Jesus, the one who was foretold in Prophecy. Philip was the disciple who was sent to meet the Ethiopian eunuch and preach the gospel to him. He then baptized the eunuch and was promptly caught up by the Spirit of the Lord and transported to another place!

This panel is also labeled, "In memory of Harold H. Dingman by Winona Dingman".

Jesus is Baptized

In the next two windows, we find John proclaiming Jesus as the Lamb of God, just before His baptism. John's followers look astounded and seem to be pondering the true meaning of John's words. Jesus is clad in scarlet robes signifying the sacrificial lamb as it is written:
Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
          Isaiah 1:18

Saint Peter

The last in this set of four windows shows us Saint Peter, the rock, the stormy teacher and preacher of the early church. Peter carries the shepherd's crook, fulfilling Jesus command to him, "Feed my sheep." He wears the keys of the kingdom on his belt in witness of the Lord's words to him, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
The great apostle is clothed in purple robes with a gold cloak.
And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
          Matthew 16:17-19

This panel is also labeled, "In memory of Jack M. Smith, John & Connie Tracy by Helen Smith, John & Debbie Tracy".

Saints PHilip and Peter

Both Saint Philip and Saint Peter were Jesus' disciples. After Jesus' resurrection and ascension, the disciples traveled sharing the experiences they had with Jesus and Evangelized, or preached the Gospel to and converted, all over the known world. At times the disciples would travel together, sometimes they would break off, and sometimes they would cross each other's paths again, aiding them in their journey. Here is a Biblical excerpt describing one of those times between Peter and Philip:
When we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais; and we greeted the brethren and stayed with them for one day. On the morrow we departed and came to Caesarea; and we entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him. And he had four unmarried daughters, who prophesied.
